The outdated bathroom before the renovation
The master bathroom of this Lincoln Park duplex was spacious, yet suffered from an outdated design and poorly-planned layout. A huge tub situated in a corner made standing at the sink a tight squeeze. The toilet was awkwardly placed between the tub and shower. Although a nice storage option, a small closet was hard to access and was not as large as the actual space would have allowed.
The redesign began by moving the toilet to a room of its own. The shower was placed next to a spacious, freestanding tub. The closet was expanded to the ceiling and widened to the studs. The clients chose the clean and classic feel of an all-white color scheme. To provide interest and depth, we selected a mix of textures and tile shapes including penny round tiles for the shower floor and storage niches, and a ribbed tile in pale gray. The closet, now a generous 9′ tall, 6′ wide and 1′ deep is outfitted with shelves and drawers hidden by a beautiful back-painted glass sliding glass door. Hanging above the tub, a pendant of clustered glass squares offers ambient lighting creating a relaxing oasis. An oversized rain shower head and heated flooring adds the ultimate luxury to this home spa.
