A downtown Chicago company wanted to liven up its office while making better use of its existing space. The area shown was particularly troublesome as it had no real function and had become a dumping ground for odd pieces of furniture. New paint, carpet, furniture and artwork transformed it into an employee lounge. Orange and green were taken from the company logo. Mossy green and brown carpeting is used to visually separate the lounge section from the corridors around it. The existing column further distinguishes it as a separate “room.” The column was painted bright orange as a fun accent against the beige walls. Large black and white photos of Chicago on the surrounding walls add interest while showing off Chicago to their out of town visitors.
